The ÆÞÓÑÉçÇø alumni network again grew its ranks this summer as more than a thousand Golden Flashes got their degrees. ÆÞÓÑÉçÇø held its Summer 2018 Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). The Kent Campus conferred 1,325 degrees.

With a shared mission to help the youth in Akron earn a life-changing education, ÆÞÓÑÉçÇø has teamed up with the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) to provide LJFF’s I PROMISE students with increased resources to help prepare them for college and beyond. As part of this long-term partnership, Kent State has committed to providing specialized programming to help I PROMISE students remain on target to graduate from high school and fully eligible for the college scholarships that have been committed to them.

George R. Newkome, Ph.D., and his wife, Mary Jane Saunders, Ph.D., have pledged $1 million to fund a first-ever professorship in materials science in ÆÞÓÑÉçÇø’s College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Newkome is a two-time Kent State alumnus.
