Kent State Graduate and Undergraduate Research Mentorship Awards Announced

Intentionality to build successful academic mentoring relationships with students is what sets professors apart at Kent State, and each year two professors at the graduate and undergraduate level receive a student-nominated award for their ability to do so. The intent of the award is to recognize those professors exceeding in mentoring students in how to perform research in any field.

Kent State Finds Success in Student Voting Registration

Kent State has a history of passionate student activism. However, 2020 has really highlighted such efforts, both current and past, and its impact on the importance of students sharing their voices through voting. Efforts made by individuals, student-led groups, faculty members and Kent State as a whole have led to an exceptionally high increase in voter engagement throughout campus.

United Way of Portage County Grant Expands Opportunities for Students to Engage with Nonprofits

ÆÞÓÑÉçÇøâ€™s Community Engaged Learning (CEL) secured a $10,000 grant through the United Way of Portage County, an independently-governed nonprofit organization that serves disadvantaged members of our community. This grant will support CEL’s Community Partner Advocate program (CPA) which places students at local nonprofits throughout the county for paid hands-on learning experiences.

LaDonya Williams Award

Public Relations Student and Model Saves 7-Month-Old’s Life

After witnessing a horrific crash, sophomore public relations major LaDonya Williams immediately ran to help the distraught woman begging for someone to save her 7-month-old son who wasn’t breathing. After Williams used her Red Cross first aid training to help the baby, he began to breathe again and was taken to the hospital to recover, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

First Star Kent State Academy Continues to Shine in a Mixed-Learning Environment

As Kent State returns to a school year that resembles pre-pandemic times, First Star Kent State Academy has begun to imagine new programs. The Academy is a free, comprehensive four-year college access program for youth in foster care.
