Veterinary Technology Application Checklist
Veterinary Technology Associate of Applied Science Application Checklist Admission to the Veterinary Technology Program is selective and competitive. It involves a separate application process to be accepted into the program, Step 11 (below)
Earned a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.70 on a 4.0 scale for Collegiate courses OR a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for High School applicants.
- Submit 妻友社区 application online at http://www.kent.edu/admissions/apply and select Trumbull Campus.
- Declare Veterinary Technology (AAS-VTEC)* as your major by either:
- Listing the above major and code on your college application
- Submitting a Change of Major request online under Student Resources in Flashline
- Declaration for the AAS-VTEC major can only be completed with a 2.7 GPA (College) or a 3.0 GPA (High School) or higher *
- After processing, you will be listed as VTEC for your major. You are not considered in the VTEC Program until after you have gone through the separate admissions process for the VTEC Program (See Veterinary Technology Program Application and Field Experience Form at /trumbull/veterinary-technology).
- Submit your OFFICIAL High School transcript and/or G.E.D. scores to the Admissions Office (4314 Mahoning Ave., Warren, OH 44483). You can contact the Admissions Office at 330-675-8967 to inquire as to whether your transcript and/or scores have been received.
- Submit OFFICIAL College transcript(s) (if applicable) to the Admissions Office (4314 Mahoning Ave., Warren, OH 44483). You can contact the Admissions Office at 330-675-8967 to inquire as to whether your transcript and/or scores have been received. You should submit your transcript as soon as possible so that a delay in the evaluation will not occur. If you are currently attending another college and plan to transfer classes, it is recommended that a transcript of your grades be sent after the completion of every semester. It is strongly recommended that transcript(s) be sent to Kent State two months prior to the application deadline.
- Submit OFFICIAL ACT scores to Kent State.
- Complete Placement Testing by following the instructions in your acceptance letter if you do not have college transfer credit for English and/or Mathematics or ACT scores within the past two years. Contact the Admissions Office (Trumbull) with any questions.
- Print, complete, and upload the Field Experience Form. It must be signed by the Supervisor from the veterinary practice(s) from which you completed your time. It must be received by the Veterinary Technology Program office by Aug. 15. Please find a link to submit this form in Step 11 below.
- Completion of High School Biology and CHEM 10030 or High School Chemistry with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or above within the last five (5) years is STRONGLY recommended. If students are not immediately accepted into the technical study aspect of the degree, they may also take BSCI 10005 and/or CHEM 10050, which are requirements for the degree. Page 1 of 3
- Meet with the program director or attend one of the information sessions for the Veterinary Technology program in order to receive specific instructions on how to complete the VTEC Program Application online and review the program admission details.
- Submit the and to the Veterinary Technology Program Director.
Admission to the Veterinary Technology Program is selective and competitive. The Admissions Committee gives priority consideration (based on a point system) to applicants having completed developmental coursework as prescribed by placement scores or assessments, to those who have completed related science and general studies courses, amount of field experience, and the applicant鈥檚 cumulative grade point average.
A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 is required for all college-level and a 3.0 GPA for all high school-level applicants in order to apply to the program. Applications will not be considered for students not meeting the minimum GPA requirement.
Students must also complete any Basic Algebra Courses required by placement testing (ALEKS or Accuplacer) through Basic Algebra II. Students not having completed the Math prerequisites will not be considered for the program.
If no prescription math courses are needed, students are encouraged to take their college-level Kent Core math course prior to beginning the program.
Students must successfully complete any prescribed English or Reading courses based on ACT or accuplacer assessment scores. These courses include ENG 01001, RC 00003, and/or RC 00006.
Applications WILL NOT be considered if Math, English, or Reading courses, as required by ACT or Assessment exams, are not successfully completed with a 鈥淐鈥 or higher. Students may apply if they are currently enrolled in one or more of these courses in the semester that applications are due, but applications will not be processed until Final Grades are submitted at the end of the semester.
Application for admission to 妻友社区 must be completed before the applicant can be considered for admission to the Veterinary Technology Program.
Acceptance: All Veterinary Technology Applications are reviewed and processed for completion of all admission criteria. If admission criteria are incomplete, inaccurate or questionable, correspondence will be sent to the student describing the deficiency and verifying that admission to the Program is denied and/or pending. If all admissions requirements are met, students are ranked based on their total number of points. Students with the highest rank will be sent correspondence offering them admission into the Program. Once the Program class is full, students who met the criteria at the time of applicant processing, but were not admitted due to lack of space availability, will be 鈥淎lternate listed鈥. If space thereafter becomes available, Alternate students will be sent correspondence offering admission into the Program in descending order. Alternate or students denied admission in a given year must reapply to the Program. It is the student鈥檚 responsibility to make sure all requirements are timely completed and/or received by the college. An application will not be considered unless you have: Graduated from an accredited high school or demonstrated equivalency through the GED test. Been admitted to 妻友社区 with the Veterinary Technology (VTEC) major declared and have completed ALEKS/Accuplacre testing requirements.
